Diabetic Eye Exam

Diabetes Can Have a Significant Impact On Your Vision. We Can Help You Effectively Mitigate These Impacts.

Diabetics Are at An Increased Risk for Eye Diseases

Patients with diabetes are at an increased risk for Glaucoma, Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, and other eye conditions.

Diabetes Can Inflict Significant Damage to Your Eyes

The complications resulting from diabetes and its high blood sugar levels can be drastic.

Damage to the small blood vessels and other components in your eyes can lead to a myriad of troubling vision issues.

Only an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist Can Detect the Signs of Diabetic Eye Disease

General practitioners do not have access to the same equipment or specialized training required to detect the effects of diabetes on your eyes.

The American Diabetes Association advises that only an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist can diagnose Diabetic Eye Disease. The ADA strongly recommends annual eye exams to monitor your eye health.

Important Information About Diabetes and Your Eyes

Eye Exams Are a Fast, Painless, Non-Invasive Way to Stay on Top of Your Eye Health

We do our absolute best to ensure our patients are comfortable during the entire eye exam process. None of the procedures are painful and most exams are completed within 60 minutes.

Annual eye exams are recommended for patients with diabetes or other health conditions that increase risk of eye disease.

Our Optometrist may want to see you more than once per year if they detect a condition that requires close supervision. Your vision is our priority.

Be Aware of Any Changes in Your Vision

Diabetics have an increased risk for certain eye conditions. We advise you to closely monitor your visual quality and to see us if you notice any changes.

Sudden or even subtle changes may indicate the development of an eye condition. If you experience any of the following symptoms, please schedule an eye exam with our Optometrist. Early detection and treatment is key to maintaining your vision.

Symptoms may include:

  • Double vision
  • Blurry or distorted vision
  • Eye floaters and flashes
  • Loss of peripheral vision
