OCT imaging is the latest, state-of-the-art technology that allows us to take high-resolution scans of the retina and optic nerve.
Our eye doctors are then able to study the detailed three-dimensional images to assess your overall eye health.
It is a non-invasive scanner that uses visible light waves to capture cross-section, high-resolution images of your retina.
The images provided from OCT imaging allow our Optometrist to inspect each distinctive layer of your retina – mapping and measuring their thickness and appearance. These measurements allow us to diagnose and provide a treatment plan appropriate for your eye condition and the stage it may be at.
Absolutely. There is no radiation involved (like with an MRI) and no negative effects for our patients.
OCT imaging is safe for patients of all ages.
This state-of-the-art technology allows us to detect and diagnose numerous eye conditions at the earliest possible sign of any abnormality. Some of these conditions include:
Since OCT uses light waves to provide these images, it cannot be effectively used with any condition that interferes with light passing through the eye (such as cataracts).
This amazing new technology is also included in our comprehensive eye wellness exam fee for all adults age 19-64. For our Senior patients, Alberta Health Care does not yet pay for this new technology so we offer it to you for a $20 cost recovery fee.
